• Withdrawal symptoms occur when drug use stops.
• Substance is taken in larger amounts over a longer period of time.
• There is a persistent desire or unsuccessful attempts to cut down or control use.
• Increased amount of time spent in activities necessary to obtain, use, and recover from substance use.
• Important social, occupational, or recreational activities given up due to substance use.
• Use of substance is continued despite the knowledge of having recurring problems that are likely to have been caused by substance use.
